The national curriculum

Learning that is shown, not only remembered

Tanzania's revised curriculum is competency-based: pupils are asked what they can understand, demonstrate, create and do, not only what they can recall. Assessment follows the national standard, with 40% from continuous assessment and 60% from standardised exams.

Under the revised structure, primary school is six years, Standard 1 to 6, with the first six-year class graduating in 2027. At Loamo, Nursery starts at age 3 to 4, followed by the compulsory pre-primary year at age 5.

  • Projects: investigative science and arts tasks through the term.
  • Portfolios: essays, experiments and maths work kept as a record of progress.
  • Oral presentations: speaking, debate and language fluency.
  • Regular checks: short diagnostics so teachers can help a child early.

Guiding and counselling

Every Wednesday afternoon

Our dedicated staff spend the afternoon with pupils in groups of the same sex and age, talking about different aspects of life, sharing ideas, facing individual fears and playing games that build confidence.

Exchange programmes

Exposure beyond the classroom

We work hand in hand with local and international organisations so pupils gain exposure academically, spiritually and physically, including Life Foundation and the Mama Kevina Centre run by the Little Sisters of St Francis.

See how your child would fit in

Tell us the class and we will explain how it works, what is taught, and what the fees cover.
